Winter-Ready: How to Prepare Your Hot Tub for Cold Months

There's nothing quite like slipping into a steaming hot tub while snowflakes drift around you. But to enjoy that magic reliably, your tub needs proper winter preparation. Here's our guide based on years of Nordic experience.

First, check your insulation. All Aurorra tubs come with full-shell thermal insulation, but it's worth inspecting the thermal cover for any wear. A well-fitting cover is your first line of defence against heat loss — it can reduce energy consumption by up to 60% in winter. If your cover shows signs of waterlogging or sagging, contact us for a replacement.

Your stove needs attention too. Before the first frost, inspect the chimney for debris and ensure the draft is clean. For our stainless steel stoves, a light brushing of the interior walls removes any summer buildup. Check the door seal and replace if it's compressed or cracked — a tight seal means more efficient burning.

Water chemistry becomes more critical in cold weather. Lower temperatures slow bacterial growth, but they also slow sanitiser activity. Test your water weekly and maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6. If you use a sand filtration system, backwash it before winter and check the pressure gauge monthly.

Finally, keep your exterior wood protected. A fresh coat of oil before November gives cedar and thermowood panels maximum protection against freeze-thaw cycles. For painted spruce, inspect for any chips or scratches and touch up with the paint we provide in your maintenance kit.

With these simple steps, your Aurorra tub will deliver perfect performance all winter. And honestly, winter is when you'll appreciate it most.
