Choosing the Right Wood: Spruce, Thermal & Cedar Compared
When configuring your Aurorra hot tub, one of the most important decisions is the exterior wood. Each option offers a distinct aesthetic, durability profile, and price point. Let's explore what makes each special.
Painted Spruce is our Classic tier option. Spruce is a traditional Nordic softwood — lightweight, sustainable, and beautifully grained. We treat it with a marine-grade paint system that protects against UV, moisture, and temperature swings. Available in matte black, charcoal grey, and Nordic white, painted spruce gives your tub a clean, modern look at the most accessible price point.
Thermowood (thermally modified timber) is the heart of our Premium range. The wood is heated to 215°C in a controlled process that fundamentally changes its cellular structure. The result is a material that's dimensionally stable, rot-resistant, and has a rich, deep brown tone. Thermowood requires minimal maintenance — an occasional oiling is all it needs to keep its warm lustre.
Western Red Cedar is reserved for our Signature line. Prized for centuries in boat building and high-end construction, cedar is naturally aromatic, insect-resistant, and exceptionally durable. Its distinctive reddish-golden colour ages into a dignified silver-grey patina if left untreated, or can be maintained with oil for that fresh-cut glow.
All three options are responsibly sourced and backed by our 2-year structural warranty. The right choice depends on your aesthetic preference, maintenance willingness, and budget. Visit our configurator to see each option on your chosen tub model.
